Last Thursday, Feb. 4 the SeaWorld Rescue Team was called in to help a malnourished sea lion pup that had taken a seat at the local Marine Room Restaurant in La Jolla, CA.

Since being rescued, the pup, nicknamed "Marina," has already gained 4 pounds, is hydrated and more nourished. The SeaWorld veterinarian team is administering topical and oral medications for an eye injury and will continue to monitor the pup until she can be returned to the ocean. Watch this video for the full update on this reservation-less sea lion pup!

Because of high tides, El Niño and an ongoing Unusual Mortality Event with California sea lions, SeaWorld is continuing to see a higher-than-normal number of strandings on local beaches. If a member of the public sees an animal that appears to be ill, injured or abandoned, they should alert local authorities or call SeaWorld’s Rescue Hotline at (800) 541-SEAL, or report the animal on the park’s website: https://seaworld.com/san-diego/
