Rescued In The Nick Of Time
February 16, 2017
Late last month a dolphin calf and mother were sighted in Mosquito Lagoon off the east coast of Florida. While under observation experts spotted something black, potentially fishing line or debris, under the water.
The next day the entanglement was confirmed and vets agreed that the situation was life threatening for the 1.5 year old dependent calf.
Members of the SeaWorld Orlando Rescue team, as well as a number of other agencies including the Georgia Aquarium and Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute, along with dozens of others experts, rushed to the rescue.
After just a few short hours experts were able to free the calf of the debris, which was caught around the animal’s left flipper and lower jaw, perform a general health assessment, and watch the mother and calf pair swim off safely!
